Thriller – Michael Jackson

Los Angeles’ top cop said on Thursday night that homicide has not been ruled out in the death of Michael Jackson as investigators subpoenaed the pop icon’s medical records.

“Are we dealing with homicide? Are we dealing with an accidental overdose? What are we dealing with? So as we are standing here speaking, I can tell you, I don’t have that information,” Police Chief Bill Bratton said on CNN.

His comment came as Joe Jackson revealed his own suspicions about his son’s death.

“I do believe it was foul play,” Jackson told ABC News’ “Nightline.”

Depending on “corroboration from the coroner’s office as to the cause of death,” Bratton suggested the investigation could lead to criminal charges. Detectives are focusing on five doctors who had treated Jackson in the past and whether they supplied him with the powerful sedative Diprivan.

Bratton said the federal Drug Enforcement Agency and the state attorney general’s office, which keeps a database of prescription drugs, are assisting.

One of the doctors being scrutinized is Jackson’s dermatologist Arnold Klein, his attorney, Richard Charnley, confirmed to the Daily News.

News of the subpoenas came as a judge approved three search warrants in the case.

Top 3 Podcasting Mistakes

Top 3 Podcasting Mistakes

With more and more podcasts being made, you will find that less podcasts are quality podcasts. With the cheap technology and easy production, any bimbo will begin podcasting. What will seperate you from the average podcaster is your quality. Here are 3 common podcast mistakes that you MUST avoid:

  1. Sound Quality. Do not use sound recorder. I repeat in bold, capitals and underline, DO NOT USE SOUND RECORDER!!! Invest in an actual recording software. Adobe Audition is an easy one, costs a bit though. Audacity is free, but the quality is not as great and is more difficult to use. Look for a software at your nearest computer shop, a podcasting software that is easy to use. Make sure that when you record, you do not use your computer microphone easier. The 3 most important hardwares you will need are: a good soundcard, a quality microphone (try a condensor microphone, with phantom power) and headphones. Make sure that your quality is clean and make sure you’re not reading off a script. Be natural.
  2. Infrequency. Make sure you are consistent with your episodes. Nothing will piss off a subscriber more than expecting for an episode all week, only to find that there is nothing there! If you post every Friday, make sure you post every Friday! Don’t skip a Friday, don’t post on Saturday, don’t post Wednesday, post on FRIDAY. Here and there you can give a treat, and post Thursday night, but be consistent!
  3. No Promotion. A lot of the time, people listen to podcasts through directories when they are looking for a new podcast to follow. If they listen to your podcast blindly (no pun intended), and like it, they will want to know where to find more. You need to remind your audience, at the end of your podcast, where they can go for more. Just say your website domain, or website name, and it will make it easier for them to find you and subscribe.

Just be professional, that’s the bottom line. A professional podcast stands out, and that’s something that people are looking for. It’s too easy to make a podcast nowadays, you need to be professional to be unique!

5 Ways to Use Podcasts

5 Ways to Use Podcasts

As podcasting gets more popular, more reasons to podcast are becoming evident. There’s no reason you should be stuck with an idea for a podcast. Here are 5 creative ways to use podcasts:

  1. News. WikiMedia started using a podcast to broadcast its news bits. You can also release a weekly podcast with news bits. It does not have to be everything in the general media, it can be niche news. For instance, news just about community events, or about rock music, etc. Newspapers and traditional media are full of countless articles which take time to read. Starting a news podcast will allow the listeners to save time by only listening to the most important news, and just the most important facts!
  2. Art. Not neccessarily a podcast, but as a vodcast. You can take videos of art exhibits and post them in a vodcast. Art is not limited at just visual art though, it is also music, drama and dance. You can have a vodcast of drama bits, like a different short each week, or clips of music. You decide!
  3. Your Own Show. Whether it’s a radio show, variety show or a soap opera, you can podcast your shows! Imagine producing your own TV show once a week, and putting it up for a podcast download. How cool would that be? What about a podcast with just the top 5 music videos of the week? There’s TONS of show ideas.
  4. Commentary. Battlerstar Gallactica has podcasts of commentary, why shouldn’t you? You can use clips of TV shows, movies, etc. and provide commentary or reviews. You can review these clips if you’re a critic, and your audience will grow if they trust your opinion!
  5. Read For People. Many people are lazy, and would rather listen to a book than read it, or listen to the newspaper than read it. Do it for them! Read the newspaper for your local audience, or read the latest book (public domain book, obviously) and provide it for them! Then people can catch up on the news on their daily commute to work, allowing them to have conversation material for the water cooler!

The possiblities for podcasts are endless, it is all a matter of how well you make them and how unique it is!

Making Money Podcasting

Making Money Podcasting

First rule of making money podcasting is don’t quit your day job. Yes it is harsh, but the truth is that there really isn’t THAT much money in podcasting unless you know what you’re doing. After a little while, and once the money starts coming in, then feel free to quit your day job. At first though, do not rely on it to be a sustainable alternative to a day job.

When you first start, you aren’t going to make much revenue (unless for some reason you get A LOT of subscribers overnight). If you are already a well-established blogger or some sort of famous figure, then you may get subscribers right away and will be well on your way to making money podcasting, but realistically, for the average person, you will need to do a lot of work before you make money.

There are numerous ways to make revenue if you have a podcast though, the question is, will people pay? That is something you will need to determine once you have an established fan base (subscribers) who listen to your podcast. Here are just a few tips:

  • Charge people to subscribe to your podcast. If you have 1000 loyal subscribers, charging them $10 a year is $10,000 a year for a podcast.
  • Advertising. If your podcast has a niche, a distinct description of your target audience, and a lot of members, you can easily find advertisers and charge them to plug in an ad. You can also review products, recommend products, etc.
  • Sell your own product. Are you a DJ? Writer? How-To Guru? Whatever you do, you can always advertise your own product. If you’re a musician, make a weekly podcast of a new song, and then sell your album. Or, if you’re a writer, read excerpts from your books, and then sell them. See where I’m going here?

These are the most common ways to make money podcasting, you can always think outside of the box, but most ideas will fall under those three categories. Look at other podcasts, and what revenue models they’re using, do your research! Befriend other podcasters, and brainstorm ideas. The possibilities are endless!
